Celebrating our Wonderful Volunteers!

We really value the work of our wonderful volunteers, and held an event to celebrate their achievements over the past year. Read on about our celebration of volunteers event!

We held our Volunteer Appreciation Event recently, bringing together our valuable volunteers, board members and local leaders discuss the impact of our volunteers and show our appreciation for all their efforts.

Attendees heard from our dedicated project officers about ongoing projects in bowel cancer screening and women’s health, highlighting the vital work being done to address these pressing health issues.

Councillor Maureen Worby joined the event to speak about the importance of community involvement and Healthwatch in supporting health services in the borough in health advocacy, emphasising the role of volunteers in shaping effective, community-centered healthcare initiatives.

Our volunteers also shared their experiences and successes, including the reasons they volunteer, and the impact it has on the wider community and their own self development. Interim Chair of Board Daniel Singleton, addressed the group, expressing appreciation for the volunteers' continued dedication and the positive impact they have on the community’s well-being.

All of our volunteers received a certificate to thank them for their continued support, and then all attendees enjoyed some refreshments and time to chat and connect.

Healthwatch is an organisation that amplifies the voices of local communities in health and social care, while also signposting people to relevant NHS services and support. We make sure local people’s views, experiences and concerns are heard by the decision-makers who can help improve services. None of this would be possible without our volunteers, who generously give their time, energy and skills to help us make a difference.

I discovered Healthwatch while searching for meaningful volunteering opportunities and was previously unaware of its vital role in the community. Through its work, I learned how Healthwatch empowers people by gathering public feedback, identifying gaps and failures in services, and helping to improve access and experiences across health and care. Its impact reaches everyone who relies on the NHS and related services, turning real experiences into practical changes that benefit the wider community.
