Healthwatch B&D Board Meeting – Summary

1. Welcome & Introductions

• DS opened the meeting. New team member Peter Kanyike introduced.

2. Minutes & Matters Arising

• Newsletters are reaching members; VS to receive printed copies.
• Conflict-of-interest form delayed; JH to share once ready.

3. Project Updates

• EHCP report: Awaiting final response; received 79 responses.
• Social Prescribing & Mental Health report: Reviewed by provider; publishing soon.
• Social Care in South Asian Communities report: Well received by the council.

4. Community Dental Services Project

• Low response rate (23); outreach efforts ongoing.
• Actions: AP to explore Google Ads (via JC), contact Jane Simmons, and speak to parents at Trinity School.

5. Upcoming Projects – Discussion

• Women’s Reproductive Health: Focus to be narrowed.
• Bowel Cancer Screening: Will explore reasons for low uptake.
• Childhood Obesity: Focus on barriers to healthy eating; parent engagement key.
• Care Homes Activities: Inspired by Enter & View at George Brooker House.

Board Suggestions:

• Mental health in young people post-COVID
• Men’s health checks (esp. over 40)
• Prostate, cervical & breast cancer screening
• Board members to submit feedback/ideas within 2 weeks

6. AOB

• RA raised GP practice concerns; DS proposed community poll.
• Action: PK to create and share survey on social media.
