Enter & View Report: Activities and Spiritual Needs at The Kallar Lodge

The Kallar Lodge Enter and View Report presents the findings of a Healthwatch Barking and Dagenham visit to Kallar Lodge, a residential dementia care home in Dagenham. The visit aimed to understand how well leisure, educational, and spiritual activities support residents' well-being and how much residents are involved in co-designing these offerings.

Seven residents, all over 80 years old and mostly living with dementia and mobility issues, shared their experiences. Activity participation varied significantly, with some residents engaging daily and others showing little or no interest.

Spiritual and religious inclusion appeared somewhat adequate, with activities like prayer groups and religious festivals offered. However, not all residents felt their spiritual needs were fully addressed, and few felt involved in activity planning.

Staff feedback indicated efforts to personalise care, including one-on-one support and attention to individual cultural needs. The report concluded with recommendations for maintaining diverse, inclusive activity programs and improving family engagement. Overall, the findings were positive but pointed to opportunities for more personalised and consultative care.
